SRINAGAR: The historic Mughal road has been closed for traffic following fresh snowfall while the Srinagar-Jammu and the national highway connecting Ladakh region with Kashmir were through despite rain.
A traffic police official said that the Mughal road, linking Shopian in south Kashmir with Rajouri and Poonch in Jammu region was closed this morning following fresh snowfall at several places.
It was still snowing and the road has become very slippery forcing authorities to suspend the traffic. He said the local administration will start the snow clearance operation if there is improvement in the weather.
Meanwhile, large numbers of vehicles are stranded on both sides of the historic road. The 300-km-long Srinagar-Jammu national highway, connecting the Kashmir valley with the rest of the country, was through for traffic from both ways despite rain.
The national highway connecting Ladakh region with Kashmir was also open for one way despite light snowfall.
Today, the traffic will ply from Leh to Srinagar. (UNI)
