KATHUA, July 5: Hiranagar police has seized 500 grams (1/2 kgs) of heroin during a routine naka checking at Hirangar today from two bikers who were on their way from Jammu to Punjab. The contraband costs Rs 2.5 crore in International market.
The two bike riders were also arrested by police. They were identified as Navjot Singh, S/o Amar Singh and Swaran Singh S/o Sukhwant Singh both residents of Indira Nagar Miran Sahib Jammu. The police also seized their motor cycle bearing number JK02BM/7880 Pulsar 200 CC, registered a case under FIR NO.81/2016 U/S 8/21/22/29 NDPS Act against the duo and started investigation.
The contraband was seized and arrests were made by a police team of PS Hiranagar led by SHO, inspector Naveen Angral under the supervision of SDPO border Dewaker Singh and over all supervision of SSP KATHUA Nerva Jain.
Police said that the motor cyclists were signaled by checking party at a naka at Hiranagar to stop, the riders tried to escape after breaking the naka. However the police overpowered them and on frisking of the duo the team recovered a 500 gram packet with grey colour plastic tape containing heroine.
The Police said that the routine checking has been intensified and number of nakas in the district were increased in view of recent incidents of drug smuggling and militancy related inputs from different agencies that anti-national elements are in a great desperation to sneak inside Indian territory from across the border more nakas have been established on all the infiltration routes as well as on NHW.
It said that it has been established that both the riders are Heroine smugglers and they are active since long. On investigation they disclosed that it was their third consignment of contraband narcotic being delivered to Punjab (Amritsar) from Jammu based smugglers.
