Addressing a press conference here, the president of Hindu Vahini Akhand Bharat, Proshatam Amit Manhas, claimed that certain individuals-including some from the Hindu community and some Muslims in Kashmir-are involved in these activities.
He alleged that the group, which he described as “influential,” has “unlawfully occupied” the temple property and other assets belonging to the Matth, calling it “a serious violation of ethical and communal harmony principles.”
“Such actions pose a significant threat to the spirit of Hindu-Muslim brotherhood that Kashmir has long cherished,” he said.
He stressed that “we categorically state” that these “miscreants”, regardless of their religious background, “are endangering peace and communal unity in the region.”
He claimed that around ten individuals are part of this alleged nexus and demanded that they be identified, isolated, and denied security protection.
He alleged that many temples in Kashmir, especially in Srinagar, have been encroached upon, claiming that a list of 200 such shrines has been compiled.
“The list includes Kal Bhairav Mandir, a mandir in Hazuri Bagh and Abi Guzar Mandir. Even there, people have been threatened-just like Swami Ji has been threatened in Solina,” he said.
Urging the Lieutenant Governor and the administration to ensure strict action, Manhas demanded the enforcement of court orders issued on the matter.
“It must be ensured that the High Court’s Order No. 230 dated 30-05-2019-prohibiting the alienation of religious properties such as temples, matths, dharamshalas, mosques, churches and gurudwaras-is strictly enforced and implemented without exception,” the organization stated.
“We issue a strong warning that any form of religious interference is intolerable, and those responsible shall not be spared. We request urgent intervention to safeguard the sanctity of religious places and uphold the law and communal harmony in the Union Territory,” he said.
On the occasion, it was also announced that a committee has been formed under the leadership of Manhas for the welfare and protection of Narayan Matth Mandir.
