Hills receive snow, Valley lashed by rains

Srinagar, Feb 2: The hills of Kashmir including Gulmarg and Pahalgam received overnight light snowfall while the Valley was lashed by rains.
Srinagar and other parts of the Valley received light intermittent rainfall last night.
The Ski resort of Gulmarg received 5.1cm of snowfall, Pahalgam 2.8cm and Kupwara 2.5cm of snowfall.
Some higher catchments of the Kashmir including the Pir Panjal Range of mountains in South Kashmir also received light snowfall.

The MeT forecast the weather will generally remain cloudy with possibility of isolated light rain/snow, thunderstorm over Jammu and Kashmir during the next 24 hours.
“There are chances of light snowfall and rain from the evening of February 3 over the isolated places while on February 4 the weather will generally remain cloudy with possibility of light to moderate rain/snow at many places over Jammu and Kashmir.
Another spell of light rain/snow at scattered places towards early morning/forenoon on February 5 is also expected.
Barring Gulmarg, the night temperatures were recorded above normal at most of the weather stations following snowfall.
The minimum temperature in Srinagar recorded during the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday improved and settled at 2.5°C against the 0.8°C the previous night and it was 3.1°C above the average for the place during this period.
The Ski resort of Gulmarg in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district dipped by a few notches and recorded the temperature at a low of -7.6°C against the -7.4°C and it was 0.2°C below the average for the Valley of meadows during this time.
The tourist resort of Pahalgam also witnessed a fall in the temperature after snowfall and recorded at -2.6°C on Sunday against the -0.4°C while at Kokernag it was sub-zero against the -0.8°C the previous night.
