Highway connecting Ladakh with Kashmir closed due to snowfall

SRINAGAR :  National highway, connecting the Ladakh region with Kashmir, has been closed due to snowfall and slippery road conditions.
Hundreds of vehicles, including those carrying passengers trucks and oil tankers, are stranded on both sides of the highway.
Official sources said Sonmarg-Zojila-Drass portion of the 434- Km-long Srinagar-Leh highway recorded light to moderate snowfall last evening.
No vehicle was allowed from both sides on the highway as a precautionary measure.
Decision to close the highway for winter months will depend upon the weather conditions.
The highway remains closed for winter months due to 10 to 15 feet snowfall.
The Border Roads Origination (BRO) responsible for the maintenance of the highway have pressed into service sophisticated machines and men to put through the highway so that stranded vehicles are cleared.
