NEW DELHI, Oct 9: A high level Malaysian delegation led by M. Kulasegaran, Minister for Human Resources & Personnel today called on Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), MoS PMO, Personnel, Public Grievances & Pensions, Atomic Energy and Space, Dr Jitendra Singh and held an hour long meeting on issues of mutual interest.
The Malaysian delegation’s visit is a follow-up of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to that country in May 2018. The delegation includes senior officers from different major departments in the Government of Malaysia.
Dr Jitendra Singh explained to the Malaysian delegation, the procedures regarding the recruitment and training processes for IAS and Civil Services in India. He elaborated on the role of Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Police Service (IPS), Indian Foreign Service (IFS), IRS, among others.
The selection process for Civil Services, Dr Jitendra Singh informed, consisted of a three-tier process including Preliminary, Mains and Interview stage. The entire process was conducted with absolute transparency, under the aegis of Union Public Service Commission (UPSC), he said.
Dr Jitendra Singh referred to a number of path-breaking personnel and administrative reforms initiated under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the last four-and-a-half years. These, he said, included doing away with the age old practice of getting documents attested from a gazetted officer, which was a legacy of the British Raj. He also discussed about the Public Grievance Cell which followed a definite timeline and the Pensions Department which had employed latest technology and portals in the last four years.
Referring to the year-long 150th Birth Anniversary celebrations of Mahatma Gandhi, Dr Jitendra Singh expressed his appreciation towards Malaysia for participating in this commemorative event. He recalled several similarities between the two nations and also several aspects of common heritage.
The Malaysian Human Resources Minister, Kulasegaran called for strengthening of mutual cooperation between Malaysia and India in different areas, including the area of public service. He also referred to his personal family lineage to Tamil Nadu and described himself as a Tamilian origin citizen of Malaysia.
