Help Sri Lankans, Jayasuriya tells world

Colombo, May 6:Well-known Sri Lankan cricketer Sanath Jayasuriya on Friday pleaded with the Government and politicians to resolve the country’s unprecedented economic crisis and urged the international community “to help the people achieve their democratic aspirations”.
“Today the entire country has been brought to a halt. In an unprecedented move even routine private medical services have been suspended,” Jayasuriya tweeted.
“This is probably the last chance that the Government and politicians have to produce a solution suitable for the people. I implore you to do so. If the people lose faith completely in the parliamentary system then anarchy will take over.”
He went on: “To quote wiz Khalifa: ‘We never really learn from the first or second or third mistake. It only hits us when we are given the LAST CHANCE.
“I appeal to the international community to help the people achieve their democratic aspirations.”
Sri Lanka has been hit by widespread anti-Government protests demanding the resignation of both President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa over widespread shortages of essential goods caused by a virtually crippled economy.
