DODA, Nov 3: A new helicopter service connecting Doda with Jammu was inaugurated today, marking a major step toward improving connectivity in the hilly district.
A statement said the service aimed at offering residents a faster, safer, and more affordable travel option to the capital city.
The inaugural flight was received by the District Development Council Chairman and the Deputy Commissioner Doda, who termed the initiative a milestone for the region.
The one-way fare has been fixed at Rs 2,500 per passenger, making the service accessible to people from all sections of society.
Deputy Commissioner Doda, Harvinder Singh said that the administration has been working to strengthen transport facilities in the mountainous area.
He added that the new service will be especially useful during emergencies and harsh weather conditions.
According to him, an information cell has been set up in the DC Office Complex, Doda, to assist passengers with bookings, schedules, and travel-related queries.
“For passengers from Jammu, similar assistance will be available at the Directorate of Tourism Office, Jammu,” he said.
The district administration also welcomed the first passengers who arrived from Jammu on the inaugural flight.
They expressed satisfaction with the service, calling it comfortable, safe, and a much-needed alternative to the long road journey.
Local residents have hailed the launch, saying it will greatly improve connectivity and save time.
The helicopter service is seen as part of the Government’s larger effort to boost regional development, strengthen infrastructure, and bring essential services closer to people in remote areas.
