UDHAMPUR , Aug 19: As the heavy rains and flash floods have created havoc in the residential area on Dhar road near SBI, the affected families in an appeal to authorities have demanded immediate construction of a deep drain from railway track Dhar road for diversion of rain and flood water so that an everlasting solution is found to their problem.
A deputation of affected families also called on District Development Commissioner (DDC), Udhampur, Pyush Singla today and submitted a memorandum to him highlighting their problem. They demanded immediate steps be taken to provide a succor to them as heavy rains and flash floods have made their lives miserable and put them into a heavy loss.

The delegation informed the DC that compound walls of over 25 houses in the area were damaged and were turned into rubble by the flash floods and household goods were included electric gadgets totally damaged as they were drenched in four to five feet deep water fortnight ago when flash floods inundated the area. The residents said when they were trying to reconstruct the damaged compound walls the flood water due to heavy rains again inundated the area three to four times forcing them to take refuge outside the locality.
They said the condition of over 30 residents in the area is totally miserable and pathetic. The affected families demanded immediate steps be taken to find an everlasting solution to the problem. They said in case the administration fails to take effective steps there can be any catastrophe in the future.
Meanwhile former Minister and MLA Udhampur, Pawan Gupta and BJP State vice president, Pawan Khajuria also took up the issue with concerned authorities and demanded that immediate steps be taken up for construction a deep drain in the locality form railway track.
Pawan Gupta said that he had already taken up the issue with the concerned authorities and urged them to take up the issue with Railways for constructing a deep drain to diver the flood water to a safer area so that the residential of the area are saved from flash floods in future.
