Jammu, Oct 14: The scheduled visit of Chief Minister Mehbooba at Ramban for convening a public redressal camp caused tremendous harassment to the commuters as vehicular movement was kept suspended on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway for more than five hours.
Hundreds of vehicles remained stranded on ends of the Chenani-Nashri tunnel from 1.30 pm to 7 pm as the authorities did not allow traffic movement near Ramban during the Chief Minister’s stay there.
The commuters, including children and elderly persons, had to face ordeal for hours together till the vehicles were allowed to move at 7 pm after the Chief Minister left Ramban for Banihal.
Though the concerned authorities were tightlipped over the inconvenience to commuters, sources said that Police and Traffic authorities stopped vehicular movement at Ramban, which led to huge jam on the National Highway and suspension of traffic from Chenani to Ramban.
There was a chaos like situation on the highway and even after the vehicles were allowed to move after 7 p.m, traffic jams continued till late evening.
Despite repeated attempts, SSP Traffic (National Highway), Sanjay Bhagat did not respond to the telephone calls for his comments.
