JAMMU, Aug 10: Just two days after BSF and Rangers held flag meeting at Octroi Post in Suchetgarh sector in which the latter returned a BSF jawan, who had accidentally swept away to Pakistan from river Chenab, the Rangers today resumed heavy firing on forward BSF posts in Arnia sector while Pakistan Army violated ceasefire on the Line of Control (LoC) in Mendhar sector.
Official sources said the Rangers fired a sniper shot on forward BSF Post of Budhwar at village Sai in Arnia sector at 3.40 pm today. The shot, however, hit the sand bag bunker of the BSF post and there were no casualties or damage.
At 8.40 pm, the Rangers resumed heavy firing on forward Indian posts of Pittal and Tent Guard at Pindi Charkan, Pittal and Kaku-De-Kothe in Arnia sector.
The BSF retaliated effectively leading to heavy exchanges, which continued till late tonight.
There were no reports of any casualty or damage on the Indian side in the firing, sources said, adding the firing by the Rangers was completely unprovoked.
Last month also, the BSF and Rangers had exchanged heavy firing in which one BSF jawan was killed while others including civilians were injured. Several cattle had also perished in the firing.
Meanwhile, Pakistan Army also violated ceasefire on the LoC in Mendhar sector at 11.30 am today by targeting forward Indian posts with small and automatic weapons. The troops from this side retaliated with equal caliber of weapons.
No casualties or damage was reported on Indian side, sources said.
