JAMMU, Aug 10: In order to have a better idea regarding the preparation of Strategic Research and Extension Plan (SREP) for different Agro Ecological Situation (AES) of the State, the State Agricultural Management Extension and Training Institute (SAMETI), Jammu organized a 5-days Training Programme on “Revisiting of Strategic Research and Extension Plan” for the extension functionaries/officers of Agriculture, Horticulture and allied Departments of the Jammu and Kashmir State.
61 officers from agriculture & allied departments, and Scientists from SKUAST Jammu participated in the Programme.
Training was organized as per the Government of India guidelines for the Centrally sponsored scheme “National Mission on Agricultural Extension and Technology (NMAET)” to be implemented during the XII Plan.
Dr M A Kareem and Dr S Subramanyyam, Master Trainers from National Institute of Agricultural Extension Management (MANAGE), Ministry of Agriculture, Government of India, orientated the trainees on extension reforms, concept of farming system approach analysis, participatory approaches used in primary data collection from Agro Ecological Situation (AES) representative villages, understanding the formats from primary and secondary data, focus on the formats for seed replacement /planting material, integrated nutrient management / integrated pest management, scope for mechanization and presentation of research and extension gaps with strategies.
The participants were taken to village Dug for ‘hands on experience’ on participatory rural appraisal, farming system approach, marketing, etc.
Dr K S Risam Director, SAMETI-Jammu thanked experts for valuable guidance and material provided for re-visiting of SREP by including Sub-Missions of NMAET i.e. seed village programme, agri-extension, agri- mechanization and plant protection. The training will be helpful for formulation of re-visiting of SREP of concerned districts by the field officers under NMAET.
