“Preparation for Healthy Parenting” is the first Book in the series of Parenting from the pen of Anita Singh. She is a writer, blogger, and interviewer on Youtube, besides being a Teacher and a Certified Parenting Coach.
This book covers all the basic and important aspects of parenting. The author has minutely dealt with the balanced approach which is a need of this journey with our child. So, the author has highlighted the importance of Behavioural Parenting. She being a Behavioural Parenting Coach has a deep knowledge about her expertise. The examples which she has mentioned in her piece of writing is straight from her own parenting experience as a mother and a parenting Coach, which the reader can easily relate to. Said LR Knost about the book. “The aspect which I enjoyed while going through this easy to read book is that, ‘Parenting is a Journey not a Destination’. I liked the way the author has described Parenting that,
The Evolving of Parenthood is the most wonderful work of Nature.
“We’re all imperfect parents, and that’s perfectly ok. Tiny humans need connection, not perfection”
So, it is a systematic process to help the parents to connect with the child at his level.
Here, one of it is, Story- telling. This as a parent I believe is the easiest way that I as a reader could directly relate to. Story-telling is the most effective way of making the child understand human nature better than any other method.
The question comes up that how the child conducts himself as an adult? Is it the result of his conditioning during his childhood or the influence of the environment?
” A Balanced individual is the Best Parent”. This is what I liked about the book and the way the author has explained this with great precision.
The author has quoted one of the famous Environmentalists,
” We Do Not Inherit The Earth From Our Ancestors, We Borrow It From Our Children ”.
“This personal experience helps me to understand that parenting is a journey not a destination”.
The author is absolutely correct by saying this that doesn’t mean that the Parents have got to remain stressful. I would like to sum- up her message in the following way:
According to the author a Perfect parenting is also a Responsible Parenting- The stress of being the best for our kids we sometimes overburden ourselves. In this way we try to be more careful and we lose the enjoyment of parenthood.
Gentle way to treat the kids leads to shaping emotional personality
The lessons start from home.
Best for the kids – Sometimes, in love with our kids we go beyond our limits. This is good but it can lead us to various incorrigible decisions for our child.
The book also includes the concepts of logical thinking and relationships. As both are interrelated and impact different aspects of life. So, parents can model a balanced approach. This needs a careful strategy and some patience, but will definitely be worth the effort to nurture our child in a healthy approach.
This book also covers effective communication and financial Literacy, as early as possible for the children. It is the most neglected part in the journey of parenting. The author has covered these topics with grace and made it easier for the young people to inculcate these in their parenting journey.
The most sensitive aspect of growing up which usually parents shy away from is financial-education and sex-education. According to the author, if parents realize the responsibility of educating their kids in these aspects, they will also develop a conscious approach towards their lives. As parents are the first teachers and can easily develop a right mindset in the early age of the child, so the child is saved from any distorted version from somewhere else. These concepts of parenting are the need of this modern era. Reason being the technology may give a distorted version to their innocent minds. So the author has also provided the concept of cyber safety. Here the awareness of the parent is a little outdated as compared to today’s child. So a few tips and guidance is also provided for the parents to stay vigilant before providing access to technology.
Concluding chapter has an awesome concept about self-care which is at times neglected, as soon as an individual gets into the role of a parent.
On the whole this book is worth reading and is available on Amazon and Notion press.
