VIJAYPUR, May 9: Apni Party Provincial president for Jammu and former minister Manjit Singh today criticized the Health department for its inefficiency to contain the spread of Covid-19 in rural areas of the UT.
In a press statement here, Singh said that the rural belt is being ignored by the Health department which has led to the fast spread of the virus in the villages as the rural population is not much aware about the effects of the virus.
“There are no containment measures taken by the Health department, nor do they have a proper awareness campaign in the rural belt of the Union Territory. We fear the situation may turn horrific if the preventive measures are not taken on war footing,” Manjit cautioned.
He said the illiteracy about the virus and poor awareness about the virus, has turned the situation more critical for the rural area people.
“The health infrastructure in the rural areas is also not able to tackle the emerging situation from last one month. They lack proper beds, oxygen, and medicines,” he claimed.
Singh said that the visionless Health department has put lives of the innocent people in villages at risk and the awareness is confined to the news papers and there is nothing on ground.
“The virus is spreading in rural areas because of no education/ awareness about the coronavirus. If people fall ill or they have any kind of symptoms, yet they avoid going to the hospitals because they have no trust in the Health institutions with the growing number of deaths,” he said.
Apni Party leader questioned the failure of the Health department and said that accountability must be fixed on the officials, who fail to perform and due to their lack of interest, the virus has taken so many lives.
