HC’s directive to I&B Ministry on ‘Big Boss’

JAMMU, Sept 24: High Court today issued directions to the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting to assess whether the Big Boss programme on Colour Television Channel is in conformity with Programme Code.
The direction was passed in a petition seeking check on telecast of unreasonable programmes on small screen and stopping of transmission/re-transmission of channels that do not conform with the Programme Code and Advertisement Code besides directions to the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting for getting the time slot of Big Boss Programme on Color Television Channel changed.
After hearing petitioner Rajeshwari Katoch in person whereas Rameshwar Singh Jamwal, CGSC for the Union of India, Justice Janak Raj Kotwal directed that the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting shall get assessed as to whether the programme on Colour Television Channel is in conformity with the prescribed Programme Code or not and whether the programme deserves prime time telecast or not.
“In case the programme is not in conformity with the prescribed Programme Code or/and the programme does not deserve prime time telecast, the Ministry shall issue order as required under Section 20(3) of the Act or order for shifting of its time slot to 11 p.m. onwards as the case may be”, the High Court said.
“The needful shall be done and report be furnished to this court within 15 days after a copy of this order is provided to the Secretary, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India”, Justice Kotwal said.
