JAMMU, Sept 24: A delegation of Associated Chamber of Traders Federation (ACTF) led by its president Yash Pal Gupta today called on Commissioner of Income Tax, A K Thatai in his office chamber and apprised him of the general problems of the trading community.
During the meeting, the representatives of traders conveyed that it is an urgent need of the hour to generate mutual faith between the traders and the Income Tax Department.
A reference in this regard was made to the appeal made by the Traders Federation for paying proper advance tax for the installment of September 15, 2013. The representatives assured the Commissioner of Income Tax that this kind of cooperation will also be continued in the coming months of the financial year.
They also apprised him that this has created a positive impact in the minds of their members who have tried to pay their advance tax correctly. The members of Traders Association also requested the Commissioner of Income Tax to defer the surveys under Section 133A of the Income Tax Act, 1962 to instill a sense of confidence in the minds of the tax payers.
They also urged the IT Commissioner to take up their demand regarding extension in date for filing audited returns with the CBDT authorities.
The Commissioner listened to the demands very patiently and assured the delegation that due consideration will be given to all their suggestions. He in particular informed the representatives of the traders that the surveys are conducted by the department only on the basis of specific allegations of tax evasion and are carried out in selective cases only.
This action of the department is necessitated to act as deterrent to the habitual tax evaders so that a message is sent to the other tax payers”, the Commissioner said. He assured the members of the delegation that due consideration will be given to the feelings expressed by them.
Others in the delegation were Neeraj Anand, Dinesh Mahajan, Dinesh Gupta, Attar Singh, Bhushan Lal Gupta, Yash Pal Abrol, Nek Ram Sharma, Ajay Mahajan and Raghubir Gupta.
