HC warns PWD of action

SRINAGAR, Sept 25: The High Court today warned the Public Works Department (PWD) with appropriate action in case the status and progress of various roads is not submitted before it in shape of status report on next date of hearing.
The Division Bench of Justice Alok Aradhe and Justice Tashi Rabstan sought status report from Public Works Department with regard to position and improvement of various road connectivities which are under the supervision of department by next date with a rider that in case court has not been apprised, then appropriate action will follow.
Court while reiterating the directions passed on August 29 granted one more opportunity to PWD to apprise the court on next date with regard to road conditions in the Valley.
On August 29, court had also directed the Vigilance Organization of Kashmir to report the court about the status of FIR as registered in embezzlement of funds which were sanctioned for the construction and widening of road from Sumbal to Bandipora.
The direction came to be passed in a PIL filed by Civil Society Tral for road widening and repairing of dilapidated roads in South Kashmir and the Court has widened the scope of the PIL for all the roads in Kashmir province.
Court had directed Public Works Department to file a status report regarding the repairs of the stretch of road between Sumbal to Bandipora.
Meanwhile, Counsel for the petitioner has been directed to file the response to the status report with regard to the portions of the National Highway NH-44 between Banihal and Srinagar as well as the link roads which are under the management of R&B Department.
Court further said, in case the conditions of the roads is as complained, the respondents will take all necessary steps for expediting the repairs as are required.
Court Commissioners are already in place which have been appointed by the Court so that the actual and factual position of various roads be brought before the court and the Commissioners from time to time after inspections of their respective sites are regularly informing the court about the road conditions.
