Srinagar, Dec 12: Division Bench of High Court comprising Justice Ali Mohd Magrey and Justice Sameev Kumar today sought consolidated report from the Government with regard framing of policy for rehabilitation of those stone quarry holders whose quarries have been closed down by the authorities.
Earlier, court was informed that the Government has identified alternate sites for the stone quarry holders in various districts except district Anantnag and Kupwara. Further, court observed that no stone quarry be allowed to operate with the limits of forest area.
Commissioner Secretary to Government Industries and Commerce department in his report has indicated that the issue regarding rehabilitation of affected quarry holders was threadbare discussed and in light of the reports furnished by the concerned District level Committees and Director Geology and Mining Department and thereafter the matter was taken-up with the Chief Secretary who also convened a meeting regarding the issue.
Government has already been directed to prepare a policy for rehabilitation of those stone quarry holders whose quarries have been closed but till date court has not been informed whether any policy has been formulated or not.
Financial Commissioner Industries and Commerce Department had stated that the finalization of Rules was at final stage and the matter was before Chief Minister and also certain decisions under the chairmanship of Chief Secretary were also taken.
