HC seeks names for committee on schools

Srinagar, Mar 11:  Jammu and Kashmir High Court today sought names of persons of high reputation for the formation of a committee that will look into the allegations of fleecing of parents and students by the private schools in Kashmir.
The Division Bench of High Court comprising Justice MH Attar and Justice Ali Mohammad Magrey asked advocate G A Lone who has been appointed as amicus in the PIL to suggest the names of the persons who are having high reputation for constitution of committee to check out the issue raised about the schools.
“Learned counsel prayed that a committee of experts be constituted who will make recommendation to deal with this menace which is rampant in some schools”, reads the order.
Advocate Lone during the course of proceeding submitted before the court that in the name of purchase of books, stationery and issuance of identity cards some schools are allegedly fleecing the children and their parents.
“Learned counsel was requested to suggest few names of the persons of high reputation who could be member of the said committee. Learned counsel sought some time for same”, reads the order.
The direction for providing names and for constitution of committee was also felt by the court, when court was further apprised that some schools in Pulwama and Srinagar districts continue to harass the students and their parents and force them to pay fee for September and October 2014.
Advocate Lone also submitted before the court that major grievance projected in this PIL stands redressed by the Government itself, as mass promotion has been ordered to be given to the students of first standard to 9th standard and also for class 11th.
