HC puts on hold order permitting Kashmir Bar to visit jails

SRINAGAR, Aug 27: High Court has kept on hold its order permitting members of Jammu and Kashmir High Court Bar Association Kashmir to visit jails and have interaction with the prisoners.
The order was passed in an application filed by the State seeking stay/modification of order dated August 14, 2019 whereby High Court allowed the Bar members to visit jails for interaction with the prisioners.
After hearing Advocate General DC Raina with Senior AAG Javaid Iqbal, Justice Rashid Ali Dar issued notice to the J&K High Court Bar Association Srinagar for filing response before August 30, 2019 and ordered that till then, direction regarding collective interaction by members of Bar Association shall remain on hold.
“This shall not be treated to absolve the respondents/applicants from providing necessary legal aid/assistance under law to various persons or in discharging the duties caste on the respondents under relevant rules/ Jail Manual”, High Court clarified.
