HC issues notice to Law Deptt

SRINAGAR, Mar 9: High Court today issued notice to the Law Department of the State for making arrangement of counsels who can argue cases on behalf of the State in the courts.
The direction was passed after the counsels representing various Government departments failed to appear in the courts on behalf of the State.
A Division Bench of the High Court comprising Justice MH Attar and Justice Ali Mohammad Magrey while hearing a criminal appeal filed by convicts who are languishing in central Jail for the last 8 years, Directed the Government to make arrangements for State counsels in the courts.
“Registry to issue notice to Secretary to Government Law Deparment for making arrangement for appearance of counsel and arguing this case. The issuance of direction become imperative as the appellant is in custody for about eight years”, directed the bench.
Court said in case the Superintendent Jail fails to file report then he shall appear in person on next date of hearing. Court asked the registry to serve the order to Law Secretary and Superintendent forthwith and posted the matter for further consideration on March 23.
