NCMC reviews latest situation on Phuktal river blockage

JAMMU, Mar 9: The National Crisis Management Committee (NCMC), headed by the Union Cabinet Secretary, Ajit Seth today reviewed the latest situation with respect to the Phuktal river blockage and status of the action plan to dismantle it.
Following the devised action plan, one of the advance teams sent to the site has successfully set up camps with all the logistics and despite inclement weather during the previous week, the layout team was successful in preparing 1.16 Km track and completing the roping process between the camp site and the landslide site.
Chief Secretary, Iqbal Khandey, Principal Secretary Planning and Development, B R Sharma, Commissioner Secretary PHE, I&FC, Dr. Pawan Kotwal, Commissioner Secretary Revenue, Vinod Koul, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Rohit Kansal and Deputy Commissioner Kargil participated in the meeting via video conferencing.
The meeting was informed that subject to fair weather conditions, the main team of expert personnel will arrive at the site and the next course of action involving breaching the dam for draining out the accumulated water will be finalized only after ground recce of the landslide site.
Meanwhile, Chief Secretary informed that 245 civilian likely to be affected in case of breach, have already been evacuated and shifted to safer place.
The latest imagery shows the width of the river as 150 meters with surface are of 270 HA and water accumulation (backward from the site) upto 15 Km.
