HC imposes Rs 10,000 costs on Home Department

 

SRINAGAR:The High Court today imposed Rs 10,000 as costs on the Home Department for seeking an extension of two weeks for filing a compliance report in connection with a PIL on jail detenues.

A Division Bench comprising Chief Justice M M Kumar and Justice D S Thakur imposed the costs after the counsel for the Home Department sought extension of two weeks for filing the compliance report.

The court granted the extension subject to payment of Rs 10,000 as costs by the Government.

The Bench also sought reponse of District Judges on why they had not filed their six monthly reports on conditions prevailing in prisons falling under their jurisdiction.

They were granted time of two weeks to file their replies.

The Kashmir High Court Bar Association has filed the PIL seeking better conditions for inmates in all jails across the State. (AGENCIES)
