HC drops contempt proceedings against Govt

SRINAGAR, Dec 17: High Court today dropped the contempt proceedings against the State after Government informed it that name of the suitable candidate for the post of Principal Government Medical
College, Srinagar is being sent to the Cabinet for approval.
The contempt petition filed by Dr Javed Chowdhry (who is claiming for the post of Principal GMC) has been closed after the information was provided to him by the Health and Medical Education Department indicating therein that the establishment-cum-selection committee meet was held on November 30.
The committee has recommended the name of the suitable candidate for the post of Principal GMC Srinagar, vide No. GAD(Ser)Genl/70/2006 date 13.12.2016. The Division Bench of Justice MH Attar and Justice Ali Mohammad Magrey has also been informed that the recommendation of the committee is being sent for approval to the State Cabinet in the shape of memo.
“In view of this situation, this contempt petition will not proceed further and is accordingly disposed of”, Justice Attar and Justice Magrey said while closing the proceeding of contempt petition.
