HC directs PDD to pay Rs 31.90 lakh compensation

JAMMU, Apr 30: High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh has directed Power Development Department (PDD) to pay compensation to the tune of Rs 31,90,000 to 14 years old boy who suffered from disability because of sheer negligence of the respondents in maintenance of the electric wires.
After hearing both the sides, Justice Rajnesh Oswal said, “writ petition is disposed of by directing the respondents to pay an amount of Rs 31,90,540 to the petitioner along with interest at the rate of 6 percent per annum except on the components of compensation on account of future earnings, attendant’s expenses and marriage prospects, from the date of filing of the writ petition till its final disbursal”.
“Out of this amount, an amount of Rs 15,00,000 shall be kept in fixed deposit in the name of the petitioner for a period of three years and thereafter the petitioner shall be at liberty to withdraw the same. In the event, the petitioner requires more money for any justifiable purpose he shall be at liberty to approach this court”, Justice Oswal ordered.
