JAMMU, Apr 30: The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) Jammu and Kashmir Branch Office today organized a significant event, “Manak Manthan,” at Avinay Hall, Bari Brahmana.
The session focused on the unalloyed and alloyed steel ingot and semi-furnished products as per Indian Standards (IS 14650, IS 2830, IS 1786, & IS 2062). The event aimed to gather input from manufacturers and discuss the technical and user aspects of the current standards.
Pankaj Atri, Joint Director of BIS-JKBO, inaugurated the session by welcoming participants and providing an overview of BIS’s efforts to involve stakeholders in enhancing national standards.
He emphasized the importance of grassroots involvement to extend the reach and improve the applicability of these standards.
Lalit Mahajan, President of the Bari Brahmana Industry Association (BBIA), attended as a special guest.
He addressed the challenges faced by local industries and presented mementoes to representatives for their dedication to quality.
During the session, BIS officials presented the features of the BIS website, including the “Know Your Standards” section, and introduced the BIS Care App, which facilitates easier access to standards information.
The discussions were highly interactive, with open house sessions that allowed industry representatives to express concerns and make recommendations.
Detailed discussions on all clauses of the standards were conducted, with numerous technical and editorial comments gathered for review by the related technical committee.
The event saw robust participation from industry leaders in the steel sector across the Jammu region, ensuring a comprehensive dialogue on improving industry standards.
BIS officials assured that all feedback received during the session would be forwarded to relevant committees for further action, reinforcing the commitment to collaborative standard development.
