HC directs dress code for officials

SRINAGAR, Aug 7:  High Court today took serious note of presence of officials of Maintenance & RE Department before the court in a casual manner and directed the Government to issue necessary instructions to all the officers in this regard.
It was in terms of order of the court,  the Assistant Executive Engineer, Electric, Maintenance & RE Wing, Sub-Division, Anantnag; Assistant Executive Engineer, Electric Maintenance and RE Wing, Sub-Division, Bijbehara, alongwith Executive Engineer, Electric Maintenance and RE Division, Anantnag, were present in person before the Court in a case titled as Mohammad Abbas Parrya & others Vs State & others.
Before parting with the case,  court observed that these officers were not in proper dress. When asked, Hakim Aman Ali ,Government Advocate, submitted that he had already apprised these officers to be in a proper dress while appearing before the Court, but, despite that, they have not adhered to his instructions.
Justice Ali Mohammad Magrey as such directed the Chief Secretary of the State to register the concern of the Court as regards the casual approach adopted by the officers who, as and when required, are asked to appear before any Court of law.
“In this regard, the Chief Secretary shall issue necessary instructions to all the officers of the Government of Jammu and Kashmir to be in proper dress as and when they have to appear in any of the Courts in the State of Jammu & Kashmir”, Justice Magrey directed.
In case, court added, as on date, the State Government has not notified any proper dress code in respect of its officers, while they are in office or have to appear before a court of law. “The Law Secretary of the State shall do the needful, in this behalf, within a period of one week”, court further directed.
Court besides providing the copy of the order to Government Advocate also directed the Registry to convey the order to the Chief Secretary and the Law Secretary of the State of Jammu & Kashmir, for information.
Meantime, court at request of Government counsel granted  two weeks’ time is to justify the authenticity of the lists issued by the authorities with reference to the claim of the petitioners on affidavit and directed the matter to be listed for further consideration on August 21.
