JAMMU, Apr 9: Expressing displeasure over incomplete status report filed by Police Headquarters through IGP (Personnel), Mukesh Singh into the much publicized petition highlighting unjustified security cover to Kewal Sharma, then Additional PRO to former Deputy Chief Minister, High Court today directed Director General of Police to furnish complete information. The direction was also issued for furnishing of information with regard to accumulation of disproportionate assets by Kewal Sharma.
After hearing Advocate Sheikh Shakeel Ahmed with Advocates Rahul Raina and Suraj Singh appearing for the petitioner Prof S K Bhalla and Senior AAG Gagan Basotra, Justice Janak Raj Kotwal observed, “whatever has been intimated by way of affidavit filed by Mukesh Singh, IGP (Personnel) on behalf of DGP is sensational indeed”.
“Instead of providing the information as sought by the court, the IGP has stated that security personnel were provided to Kewal Sharma because there was threat perception to his life coming from none else than the Deputy Chief Minister himself and this was conveyed to Police Post Pouni Chak verbally by the wife of Kewal Sharma”, Justice Kotwal observed.
“The court is informed that security personnel were provided to Kewal Sharma by the then SSP Jammu because of the threat perception to the former”, Justice Kotwal said and directed the Senior AAG to keep available the entire record relating to the decision taken in this regard by the then SSP Jammu on the next date.
“Besides, Director General of Police shall furnish the left over information as required vide order dated March 20, 2015”, High Court said, adding “information with regard to accumulation of disproportionate assets by Kewal Sharma as directed by the previous order be also furnished by the next date”.
The matter has not been fixed for April 27 for further consideration.
