HC closes 7 Stone Crushers

Srinagar, July 24: The Jammu and Kashmir High Court today directed seven Stone Crushers and Hot Mix Plants North Kashmir to close down their operations for violating pollution and other norms.
A Division Bench of the High Court comprising Chief Justice, M M Kumar and Justice Hasnain Masoodi today directed suspension of the operations of the Stone Crushers and Hot Mix Plants in Mavar Handwara in the frontier district of Kupwara today.
Those whose operations have been suspended are M/s Rash Builders, M/s Imperial Store Crusher, M/s Bismillah Crusher, M/s GK Stone Crusher, M/s Fair Deal Macadam Plant and Stone Crushers, M/s Sunshine Stone Crusher, M/s Paramount Hot Mix Plant.
“The aforesaid Units have completely violated the Rules governing the citing parameters for setting up the Stone Crushers/Hot Mix Plants. Therefore, the conditional stay orders passed by the learned Single Judge in connected writ petitions cannot be relied upon for the purposes of continuous operation of such units merely because an interim order has been issued. In some cases, there are no interim orders leave alone the conditional stay order. Therefore we find no impediment in vacating the interim orders and directing the aforesaid Units to close down their operations forthwith and stop extraction of any minor mineral like stones etc. from the bed of the Nallah. The Deputy Commissioners of respective Districts are directed to ensure immediate compliance of this order and file report within one week”, reads the court order.
