SRINAGAR, Oct 31: High Court today directed the Government through its Additional Advocate General to file status report in Public Interest Litigation stating that a number of doctors were taking bribes from a particular micro-lab.
A Division Bench of High Court comprising Justice Muzaffar Hussain Attar and Justice Ali Mohammad Magray was hearing a PIL which stated that few Government doctors were in nexus with a pharma company and have been offered freebies, bribes, kickbacks from Micro Lab Limited to prescribe its medicine in violation of Medical Council of India Rules.
The petitioners have prayed before the court that the assets of these doctors be ascertained, a task force be constituted to look into such offences and companies which are offering such incentives be blacklisted.
“Such transactions by the doctors are at the cost of patient care, the substandard drugs surfacing in the market have definitely a link with these mal-practicing doctors causing damage to the health of public at large,” the PIL stated.
