JAMMU, Feb 3: Harbans Bhalla Educational Trust (HBET) conducted selection test for scholarships, which was attended by more that 600 rural students, here.
The students were from classes 1st to 10th from Government Schools. More than 80 per cent students were girls.
“HBET is supporting the education of rural children since 1997, particularly girls from rural areas of Government schools. The number of children helped every year has grown from 12 initially to 620 children this year”, official spokesman of HBET said.
HBET aims to cover as many rural children as possible in and around Jammu in areas such as Hiranagar, Chak, Rattian, Doomi, Gajansoo, RS Pura, Birpur, Rehian, Jourian, Dansal, Kangrail, Gurah Slathia, Ghou Manhasan, Surinsar, etc, he informed.
“Besides providing scholarships to the students, HBET also offered medical assistance and medicine. Mentorship and counseling is a regular feature throughout the year to educate and enhance their understanding of life and academics”, he stated.
Every year 50 to 70 new selected students are added for scholarship through written tests and home visits, he said, adding that families having children from classes 1st to 3rd are welcome to contact HBET and apply for scholarship.
