HBET awards 500 children with scholarships

JAMMU, Mar 21: Harbans Bhalla Educational Trust (HBET) awarded scholarships and support worth Rs 16,20,210 to 500 children from over 75 villages.
On the occasion, Dr Pawan Kotwal, Divisional Commis-sioner Jammu distributed the scholarships to the students.
He interacted with many of them and impressed upon them to work hard, take full benefit of the support being provided to them by the trust and achieve excellence in their education to carve out a bright future.
Kotwal stressed the need of every possible step being taken to promote the education of girls, particularly those who live in slums and in remote rural areas.
Children from Doomi, Akalpur, Naugran, Korejagir, Arnia and Surinsar presented cultural items including songs, dance and drama. Certificates were also given to mentors.
The Managing Trustee in his annual report said that the development of the nation is not possible if large chunk of the population is illiterate.
“The Trust is paying annual scholarships and conducting various other educational and child welfare schemes for children belonging to economically and educationally weak families for the past 18 years. Academic camps, counseling, medical help and other supportive measures are being provided by the trust for reducing illiteracy in the State. 80 per cent of the selected students are girls”, Managing Trustee added.
