Srinagar, Aug 17: The residents of Zahid Pora in the Hawal area here today staged a protest against the administration alleging that they have been served notices asking them to vacate or face demolition.
Scores of residents of the area appeared in the Press Enclave and were seen raising slogans against the administration for serving them notices.
Riyaz Ahmad, one of the residents who were leading the protest said that they have been living for the last 80 years and that the administration is now resorting to excesses by ordering the demolition of their houses.
”Our ancestors have been living there and now we are being told to vacate, which is sheer injustice and uncalled for in any circumstances,” he said.
The protestors said that the administration is ready to demolish their houses and that the SMC has been directed to act accordingly.”
We are all working as sweepers with the SMC, and it is a known fact that we have been working hard to make our ends meet; now when we are being vacated, how is that justified,” the protestors said.
The protestors said that they have made their houses after getting loans while they also claimed the Commissioner SMC has also been served with the notices telling them to demolish our houses. “We demand justice and we should get it; because if the people of Dal are getting duly rehabilitated why not us.”
