JAMMU, Sept 25: Jammu and Kashmir Police continue to conduct raids in different areas to arrest the persons associate with inter-state sex racket, which was unearthed yesterday.
This was stated by Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Jammu, Dr Sunil Gupta, while interacting with media persons here today.
SSP said that a person hailing from Janipur area alleged that some sites on the internet have advertisements regarding escort services and services of call girls at Jammu. These services are provided by some locals of Jammu area who have their registered phone numbers shown on these sites and pages, he added.
“Reportedly, they manage girls from the local vicinity as well as outside the city and State and provide them to customers and callers who may be locals or non-locals at their houses as well as hotels”, Dr Gupta stated.
On this information, a case under FIR Number 93/16 under Section 67 A-B IT Act and 5/8 PITA at police station and found that such sites are very much functional on internet and all the work is done on phone.
SSP added that police swung into action and arrested three main accused from different locations. On their disclosure police came to know about major flesh trade is operative in Jammu and raided at different locations of the Jammu city and arrested brokers including males and females.
“Though the exact number of girls and customers involved in the racket could not be ascertained as investigation is at its initial stage and raids are still on. Reportedly network of this racket may be across many districts and adjoining States also”, he added.
He added that the racket also had chains operational in Mumbai, Delhi, Meerut, UP and other major states, adding, so far we have detained over 15 persons including some ladies but the simultaneous raids are also being conducted as more arrests cannot be ruled out.
SSP stated that some of the customers, brokers and ladies have also been detained, adding, “We are investigating the matter whether the links of the racket are also connected to some high profile involvement or not, which as yet has not be established”.
“We have approached Google authorities requesting them to keep check besides monitoring exercise of flesh trade and keep eye on such sites indulging into the crime”, he stated.
SSP added that police is determined to provide safe and secure atmosphere to public in general and protection of women folk in particular. Arrest of accused persons has definitely given sigh of relief to public and has increased their faith on police, he said and appealed to the general public not to fall prey to immoral activities.
He, however, said that those spreading false information about the offence with names being circulated on social media, will be booked under relevant sections.
Meanwhile, police sources claimed that seven persons including three brokers and four females have been arrested in this racket and their questioning is going on to ascertain the names of other persons involved in this racket.
