MENDHAR, Sept 9: The people of village Harmutta held a demonstration in the village today in protest against the Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs (FCS&CA) Department’s failure in releasing the ration for last two months to the villagers.
The demonstration was led by youth PDP leader Imran Ali Khan. The protestors while criticizing the Departmental authorities for not giving ration for last two months demanded that the same be released immediately as people are facing many hardships and the poor families dependent on BPL ration are at the verge of starvation.
Addressing the protestors, Khan said that the people had protested earlier also as there were many discrepancies in the list framed by dealers, patwaris and Naib Tehsildar Harni as employees names were included in BPL category while those of deserving people were excluded.
As the people took to streets against the discrepancies in the list, the DC Poonch M H Malik issued directives to the concerned officers to frame another list after making proper verifications and the deserving people be included in it.
He said then new list was framed and it was submitted to TSO Mendhar. The same is lying in TSO office Mendhar for last two months and villagers of Harmutta have not been supplied ration since then.
He said the concerned ration dealer of the area also figures in BPL category in the list and his name falls on serial number 86 and census number 1065.
Later, a delegation of the people led by Mr Khan met Tehsildar Shazad Ahmad Khan at Mendhar and demanded a probe that how the dealer’s name figures in the BPL list.
The Tehsildar issued instructions to TSO to visit the area and make verification on spot.
