POONCH   Dec 16: Prominent Gujjar leader and intellectual of the state Shamsher Hakla Poonchi has reiterated his appeal to Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti urging her to introduce a bill in the coming Legislative Assembly session for continuing reservation in promotion of Government employees belonging to Gujjar Bakarwal  Schedule Tribe community, Schedule Caste and other Backward Classes.
Hakla said that in every sphere of life reservation is the need of the hour and is necessary for the people belonging to ST, SC and OBC categories, adding that in order to keep ST, SC and OBC employees at par with people belonging to other communities, their reservation in promotion is an essential requirement.
Hakla said that even after 26 years of granting ST status to the Gujjar and Bakerwal community by Government of India, the people of this community are still deprived of full benefit as this community is socially, educationally, economically and politically lagging far behind due to the apathy of the State Government.
He said that Gujjar Bakarwal community mostly resides in far flung, hilly, mountainous areas of the State where no proper facilities are available.
Hakla said that the problems and need of Gujjars and Bakerwals are quite different from other communities of the State, adding that language and culture of Gujjar community is also different than those of other communities of the State.
While reiterating his appeal to Government for continuing reservation in promotion for the Government employees of these down-trodden categories, he said this will help in their empowerment and upliftment.
