SRINAGAR, Dec 11: For the first time in many winter seasons’, the known cases of H1N1 have come down to zero at this point of the time in Kashmir.
Earlier, there was only one case of H1N1 admitted at Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS), Soura, who was undergoing treatment and was said to be stable. The patient was suffering from a chronic chest disease and was also tested H1N1 positive.
However, the lone patient with H1N1 virus has been discharged from the hospital after being completely treated over a period of time, bringing down the number of H1N1 virus cases to complete zero.
“We had only case of H1N1 virus; the patient was suffering from Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD). After being treated for some time at the hospital, the patient has been discharged now,” Medical Superintendent, SKIMS Dr Farooq Jan told Excelsior, adding that the number of H1N1 cases at the hospital, earlier being one, has now come down to zero.
With the onset of winter season in the Valley, the cases of H1N1 virus began to be reported, however, this season, till December a downward trend was observed with regard to the cases reported at SKIMS.
The doctors said that the number of cases this season is comparatively less to what the trend was last year. According to the figures, last year from September to January a total number of 120 H1N1 positive cases were reported at SKIMS, out of which around 40 such patients were undergoing treatment while was 7 patients died owing to the comorbities. In October last year, there were more than 10 cases of H1N1 virus that were reported at SKIMS, while there were few deaths as well.
It was reported by the doctors that the activity of the virus was less this season in comparison to last year. They said that normally, there was a good activity of virus during this season. However, the same has been reported to be less as of now.
