Guv reviews security

JAMMU, July 7: Governor NN Vohra today reviewed security situation in the Kashmir valley after three civilians including a woman were killed in firing by the security forces in Kulgam district. He also reviewed arrangements for smooth conduct of ongoing pilgrimage to holy cave shrine of Shri Amarnath Ji.
The security review meeting was attended by Governor’s all three Advisors, top Army Commanders including Northern Command chief Lt Gen Ranbir Singh and senior officers of all security agencies and civil administration.
Vohra called for strict implementation of the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) by Army and all security forces to avoid incidents of civilian casualties and collateral damages even in the situation of extreme provocation.
He called for sustained collaborative action and synergy between the Armed forces and Jammu and Kashmir Police with civil administration in dealing with difficult situation particularly to ensure against the loss of civilian lives.
The Governor took detailed briefing on Kulgam incident in which three civilians including a girl were killed in firing by security forces on a mob.
Northern Command chief Lt Gen Ranbir Singh, who was specially called to the meeting, briefed the Governor on overall security situation, Shri Amarnath Ji yatra pilgrimage and Kulgam incident.
The Governor had detailed assessment of security and other arrangements made for safe conduct of Shri Amarnath Ji yatra on both the tracks of Nunwan-Pahalgam and Baltal.
Various other aspects of situation in Jammu and Kashmir figured at the meeting.
The Governor expressed deep anguish over the death of civilian lives in Kulgam including a teenage girl.
Besides Northern Army Commander Lt Gen Ranbir Singh, the meeting was attended by the three Advisors to Governor, B B Vyas, K Vijay Kumar and  Khurshid Ganai; Dr S P Vaid, Director General of Police; Umang Narula, Principal Secretary to Governor; R K Goyal, Principal Secretary Home;  Lt Gen A K Bhat, GOC 15 Corps;  A G Mir, ADGP, CID; Muneer Khan, ADGP, Home Guards, Security and Law and Order; Baseer Khan, Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir; S P Pani, IGP Kashmir; Zulfiquar Hassan, IG CRPF (Ops) Kashmir;  Ravideep Singh Sahi, IG CRPF Kashmir and Sonali Mishra, IG, BSF.
