Gupta takes over as VC SKUAST-J

JAMMU, Feb 11: Dr R K Gupta, Director Research SKUAST Jammu, today took over the charge of Vice-Chancellor, Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology, Jammu.
He was handed over the charge of Vice-Chancellor by Dr K S Risam, who had been holding this charge for the last around 10 months since completion of the tenure of Dr Pardeep Sharma as VC.
Dr Gupta is son of the soil and senior most Professor of SKUAST-Jammu. He has diverse experience of 38 years in academic, research and management. He did his MSc, Ph.D and post doctorate qualifications from institutes of repute in India and abroad. He has developed five varieties and identified over hundred vegetables /spices crops. He has published over 70 research/technical/policy papers and over 130 popular articles besides 11 books/ Manuals/proceedings. He has been conferred with many awards at national and international level (including FAO fellowship, DST fellowship, Prof B M Johri Award, outstanding researcher award and JRF/SRF from ICAR).
Dr Gupta has been instrumental in institution building and establishing new Faculty of Basic Sciences, first Plant Tissue Facility in SKUAST-J, Mega Seed Unit, Seed/ Experimental farms. He started four new PG programme (Vegetable Science, Floriculture, Microbiology/Plant Physiology) and three new Ph.D programme (Vegetable/ Biochemistry/ Statistics). He is member of six professional and scientific societies and statutory bodies of the university.
