Jammu, July 22: The former Union Minister and MLA, Prof. Chaman Lal Gupta has indicted the State Government for their over acting on the sad incident at Dharam in Ramban District and accused the BSF of using “excessive force” without waiting for findings of the enquiry which since was ordered. He also cautioned the authorities both that of the State as also at the Centre to take due note of the incidents of inciting communal violence as these could be prelude to some bigger trouble as had been in the past too.
Expressing disappointment over the functioning of the ruling leaders for not functioning dispassionately, Prof. Gupta observed that no doubt that the loss of lives and sufferings to many others is a matter of serious concern but it is equally questionable that the State Cabinet should go whole hog condemning the security forces for all without going into the findings of an enquiry. It is a question that how a magisterial enquiry can there be fair when the Government itself had given the verdict of using excessive force.
He said that the menace of inciting communal trouble has been there in the State for decades now. Even before the eruption of communal violence in 1931, during the regime of Maharaja there were allegations of desecration of holy places and books. Prior to eruption of armed militancy and violence in late eighties, several such incidents surfaced for sacrilege of holy places of different religions to incite communal problems and create tension amongst various sections of the society.
Prof. Gupta regretted that of late there has been attempts to raise accusing fingers against the forces of using excessive force and indulging in violation of human rights, a sustained campaign to malign the forces fighting the militancy. But it was unfortunate that certain elements from within the ruling dispensation should come out to denounce the security forces and opt for upmanship with the secessionists and separatists. This is very deplorable situation of which a serious note must be taken by all the nationalists as the threats of terrorist violence and cross border terror are not yet over.
