JAMMU, Oct 24: As reported exclusively by the Excelsior on Sunday, Governor NN Vohra today issued formal orders for the appointment of Pitambar Lal Gupta, retired IPS officer of Jammu and Kashmir, as Chief Vigilance Commissioner (CVC) of the State.
“Appointment of PL Gupta, who had retired as Director General of Police (DGP) will take effect from the date he assumes charge of the post in the State Vigilance Commission (SVC),” an order issued by the Governor said.
The post of CVC was lying vacant since the first CVC Kuldeep Khoda, demitted office in February this year after completing his term.
The Governor also appointed retired IAS officer Gazanfar Hussain as the Vigilance Commissioner (VC).
Excelsior had exclusively reported on October 22 that the Governor has cleared the appointment of Gupta as CVC and Hussain as VC.
Gupta is IPS officer of 1984 batch and had held several prestigious posts in Jammu and Kashmir including IGP Jammu division, a post which he held for four years. Before his promotion to the DGP rank, he has also served as head of the State Vigilance Organisation.
He later served as Special DGP and DGP Prisons. During his tenure, he had been highly acclaimed for his anti-militancy operations especially in Poonch district. Two terror attacks at famous Ragunath Ji temple were successfully countered by neutralizing all militants during his tenure. He has been recipient of President Medals for gallantry and meritorious services and gold medal by the State Government.
