Gul reviews “People’s Help Group” initiative of JKRDS

SRINAGAR, June 14: Chairman, J&K Rural Development Society (JKRDS) and former Speaker J&K Legislative Assembly, Haji Mubarak Gul, today held a meeting with JKRDS functionaries from district Srinagar to take review of society’s initiative of “People’s Help Group”.
The Group was made by the Society with the purpose of resolving the problems faced by poor due to COVID-19 pandemic and to fight social evils such as drug abuse besides providing assistance in natural calamities, disasters as well as assisting the JK administration in mitigation of COVID-19 and various other social causes.
In the meeting, Mubarak Gul discussed about the measures ensured by the JKRDS functionaries during the ongoing pandemic to help the needy people. He impressed upon the society members to intensify efforts at grass root level such as making public aware regarding importance of masks, vaccine, hand hygiene, other COVID related SOPs to contain the deadly infection.
Speaking on the occasion, Gul said, “JKRDS is dedicated to all work on voluntary basis for development of Jammu, Kashmir & Ladakh. We need to intensify our efforts to work for widening scope of education among children & youth, promoting communal harmony, protecting forest, protecting environment and protecting wild life in rural areas.”
Gul expressed his concern over rising suicide cases in J&K and attributed the same to loss of money, job, business, personal matters, pressure and various others factors that results in mental illness. He said that mental illness should mandatorily be brought within the ambit of life insurance schemes.
He also asked the society members to work on ground level with mohalla and religious committees towards spreading awareness among masses about the mental health issues.
