JAMMU, Jan 27: A one day meeting of prominent Gujjar leaders, social activists and sarpanchs was held at Gujjar Desh Charitable Trust here today under the chairmanship of Shah Mohammed Choudhary, president J&K Gujjar United Front.
Addressing the meeting the community leaders gave clarion call to launch a sustained struggle for its rights.
Mr Chowdhary also urged the Government not to ignore the Gujjar and Bakerwal community any more and give them their due in political, economic and cultural field
The meeting was held in the backdrop of deteriorating political and economic profile of Gujjars and their complete absence from the political and administrative priorities of the Government.
The meeting also identified some major areas were sustained struggle is needed and the issue which assumed prominence for future course of action included political reservation in the Legislative Assembly and panchayats at the level of villages, blocks and districts.
Mr Chowdhary demanded removing of imbalances in recruitments and promotions to various state services and called for due representation of Gujjars and Bakerwals to the Public Service Commission (PSC) and SSRB.
The meeting stressed on implementation of all decisions of Gujjar Bakerwal Advisory Board. It also noted with deep concern and regrets the misutilization and misappropriation of central funds and called of its rationalization and accountability.
The Gujjar leaders demanded special Central Assistance to Tribal Sub Plan (SCA to TSP) should be adhered to strictly as per provisions and the Government should also bank on special contingency funds, so that no more excuses in execution of development and welfare projects for tribes.
