POONCH, May 22: Shamsher Hakla Poonchi, a prominent Gujjar Leader and an intellectual of J&K State, has appealed the J&K Government to continue the policy of reservation in promotions.
Hakla said that reservation in promotion in Government jobs was the need of the hour and was a necessity for Schedule Tribe, Schedule Caste and other backward classes.
He said in order to keep pace with the Government employees belonging to upper sections, the reservation in promotions for the deprived sections was essential.
Laying specific stress on the matter, he said the schedule tribe status granted to the Gujjar and Bakarwal community on April 19, 1991 by Government of India completed 26 years, however, the State Government could not implement it in letter and spirit to give full benefit of Schedule Tribe status to the Gujjar and Bakarwal community.
