SRINAGAR, Jan 21: Members of Gujjar Community today protested here demanding stern action against the doctors responsible for the death of newborn after the mother was refused admission in Government LD Maternity Hospital.
The newborn baby died after doctors refused to admit a pregnant lady, forcing her to deliver on the roadside.
Scores of members from Gujjar Community gathered at Press Enclave and demanded strict action against the doctors involved. The members were carrying placards that read “Gujjar are also Kashmiri’s” “Terminate the doctors” and justice for “Kupwara lady.”
The protestors said that the staff and doctors who refused admission to a woman from their community should be terminated and their degrees canceled. “The doctor involved in the tragedy has no place in our society. They have no right to live. Casteism was not prevalent among Muslims. It should have not happened. It is an unfortunate incident,” a protestor said. He, however, asked: “Where are our politicians, why are not they protesting. People should raise voice against it.”
Meanwhile, the protestors demanded that police should lodge FIR against the culprits.
