Srinagar, Nov 23: Gujjar Bakarwal Students Welfare Association and Gujjar Bakerwal Conference activists today protested here to press for 10 percent job quota reservation in Jammu and Kashmir Bank and fulfillment of other pending demands.
Holding placard and shouting slogans, the Gujjar activists assembled at press enclave here. They demanded 10 percent reservation in JK Bank, restoration of reservation in promotion and relaxation in form fee for Jammu Kashmir Service Selection Board (JKSSB) posts.
“The 10 percent reservation in JK Bank, which has been reserved for schedule tribes, but the bank is not giving us this benefit and clubbing both the Schedule Tribes/ Schedule Caste categories in percent which is reserved for SCs only,” said Zahid Ahmad, one of the Gujjar leaders. He accused the Bank of violating rule of law and guaranteed right of reservation.
The Gujjar leaders asked the Government to clear its stand or else “25 lakh Gujjars with goats and buffalos would hit streets”. “In the name of good governance and development, the State Government is betraying people and the downtrodden communities are being pushed to wall,” they alleged. The Gujjar leaders also threatened “fast unto death” if JK Bank doesn’t clear their backlog as per 10% reservation quota.
