Gujarat police reaches Jammu for Modi’s security

JAMMU, Nov 28: A four-member team of top ranked officers of Gujarat Police today arrived here to supervise security arrangements ahead of Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Lalkar Rally’ scheduled for December 1 here.
Top ranked officers from Gujarat Police comprising Inspector General of Police and three Deputy Inspectors General reached Jammu this morning, sources said, adding the officers visited the venue of the rally at MA Stadium and supervised the security arrangements.
They also had discussions with Jammu Police officers.
Mr Modi will land at Technical Airport in a private Jet at around 11 am and proceed towards MA stadium by road. He will return to New Delhi in the afternoon.
Sources said the Gujarat Police officers will supervise the security situation for the rally in assistance with the State Police and other security agencies.
However, the venue Maulana Azad Stadium has been cordoned of and police along with CRPF personnel have been deployed in and around for incident free conduct of the rally.
Special pickets have been raised along the banks of river Tawi and the GGM Science College, close to the venue to keep check on any “unwanted” movement.
Posters have been pasted around the city walls besides the vehicles while the City of Temples has turned saffron with party flags fixed everywhere.
Meanwhile, security has been beefed up in Jammu for the proposed rally of Mr Modi with the police sealing the venue and making it out of bounds for general public.
Checking of all vehicles coming to and leaving Jammu is being conducted at various security points across the city, police said.
M A M stadium has been sealed and made out of bounds for general public till the rally day. Policemen with sniffer dogs and metal detectors have sanitised the stadium.
Police and paramilitary forces have been deployed in and outside the stadium complex as the first tier of the security.
BJP is leaving no stone unturned to ensure that Modi’s rally is a grand success.
Party has set up a control room and constituted 23 teams to ensure that the event is conducted smoothly.
Giant television screens have been installed for the people who cannot get access to the rally venue, and party activists are going door-to-door asking people to turn up for the event.
