NEW DELHI: Stating that there would be a huge quantum of growth impulse in the economy post Goods and Services Tax (GST), Economic Affairs Secretary Shaktikanta Das today said that it would be implemented from July 1, 2017 as the Centre and states have agreed to come on board. Talking to reporters here, Mr Das said, “GST implementation is a huge one and that is going to be implemented by July 1. Both central and state governments are working on this.” In the last GST council meeting, many of states had differed on several proposals of GST clause and had mentioned that the implementation process could be delayed further.
Earlier, the deadline for implementing the GST was set on April 1. But, in the ninth meet of the GST Council in January, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley had admitted that July 1 will be the “realistic date” for GST. (AGENCIES)
