UDHAMPUR, Jan 29: Geological Survey of India (GSI), a premier Earth Sciences Organisation, under Ministry of Mines, Govt of India, participated in ‘Vision J&K 2018’, organized here today.
ADG and HoD, GSI, NR, Lucknow Som Nath Chandel inaugurated the GSI pavilion in presence of DDG, SU- J&K DV Ganvir, Dr GS Tiwari, Director, PSS.
The presence of retired GSI officers Sewa Das, retired ADG, Mohan Lal, retired DDG and AK Shali, retired Superintendent (Geologist) added glory to the event.
An educational information brochure on “Rocks, Minerals & Fossils” for the visiting students was released by Mr Chandel on the occasion.
A large number of students visited the GSI gallery to gather information showing great interest with varied themes which included fossils of various ages, rock and mineral samples from different localities.
The dinosaurian egg and the molars of Stegodon attracted large number of visitors. The earliest form of life was represented by the Stromatolites (2600 My), an amazing information for the visitors.
Visitors showed interest in varied types of rocks, minerals and fossils occurring in Jammu & Kashmir.
The posters on Engineering Geology and Landslides, Earthquake Geology, Glaciology, Polar Studies, Gemstones, National Geological Monuments and Geo-tourism were delight to watch.
The officers of GSI explained about the posters and exhibits to the groups of students and common people.
