GSI, KU ink MoU for promotion of Geo-Scientific research

SRINAGAR, Dec 10:  Geological Survey of India (GSI) and University of Kashmir signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for research collaboration in various fields of Geosciences like glaciology, quaternary geology, seismic microzonation, paleoclimate and various other geological fields in J&K Himalayas.
The MoU was signed on Tuesday by the GSI team led by Deputy Director General Dr  Shankar Pal Nim and the KU team, led by Prof  Khurshid Andrabi, Vice-Chancellor KU.
The MoU signing ceremony was among others attended by Dean Academic Affairs KU Prof MA Wani, Dean Research Prof Javed Ahmad, Registrar KU Prof ZA Reishi and Head, Department of Earth Sciences, KU Prof Shakeel A Romshoo, Director, GSI, Jammu, faculty from the Department of Earth Sciences and Geologists from GSI, Kashmir.
Prof  Khurshid Andrabi, VC KU  said that the collaboration between KU and GSI should benefit the University through the use of the national analytical facilities available with GSI by research scholars for promoting cutting edge research in the frontier areas of Earth Sciences.
He further said that the MoU shall help the GSI to make use of the KU expertise in conducting national geoscience related research schemes in the Himalayan region inter alia enhancing research skills of the KU students in the field.
Dr  Shankar Pal Nim, Deputy Director General, GSI said that the MoU shall help the two organizations to extract and optimize the benefits for mutual good through the sharing of the expertise, knowledge and the infrastructure available with the two organizations.
Prof  Shakil A Romshoo, Head, Earth Sciences, KU said that the MoU shall help to build the technical ingenuity of the KU students in the frontier areas of Earth Sciences.
The collaboration, under the MoU, also covers student and faculty exchange, mutual use of the analytical facilities, joint workshops, field campaigns and joint implementation of the national research projects in the J&K Himalayas.
